Ellis and Helawi Islander
Helawi Shetlands first began over 35 years ago with Chenies Maid of the Mill. She was bought as a riding pony but soon became our foundation mare, because of her nature and conformation. She was closely followed by our first stallion, Speyside Golden Suntan.
Since then we have continued to buy in new stock and run on our own breeding lines. We now breed an equal amount of miniatures and standards. Cwmhen Farthing was another good buy as we have 4 of his sons and 2 grandsons as our stallions. We also have many mares from him. He sired his last foal May 2008. She was a lovely filly with exactly the same markings as him. We named her Helawi Penny Farthing and needless to say we will be retaining her.
Mares and Foals at pasture
Our stock has continued to do well in the show ring, especially prolific in riding, jumping and in-hand. We have a range of colours and sizes from Palomino to Piebald, 29" - 41".
The mares are stabled to have their foals. This way we can be very hands on with the foal. When weaned, the foals return to the stables for handling, halter breaking and to ensure they are eating hard feed, before continuing on to their new homes.

We now have 3 generations running the show. The grandchildren believe they know the best way to do things (and usually do!).
We are very wide spread from Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Devon and Sandon. We all welcome visitors. If you are passing at all, please give us a call and arrange a visit.
